Services

Pet Surgical Services

As part of our commitment to our patients’ health and safety, we use laser surgery whenever possible.

Laser surgery involves the use of highly concentrated light to make incisions instead of scalpels. A minimally invasive alternative to traditional surgery, laser surgery typically results in less pain, bleeding, and swelling in pets, and it can even reduce the risk of infection and lasting discomfort after the operation.

K-M Regional Veterinary Hospital is committed to investing in the most advanced surgical techniques and technology. Our veterinary team is well-trained in utilizing these modern tools for a wide range of pet surgeries, including spay and neuter surgery, growth removals, laceration repair, orthopedic surgery, soft tissue surgery, and advanced dental surgery.

Features of Our Surgical Facilities:

  • ECG and oxygen saturation monitors
  • Heated surgery tables for greater patient comfort

Pre-Surgical Care

Prior to any operation, we conduct a series of diagnostics to determine if and how we should apply anesthesia to your pet, as well as to determine if they have any specific pre-surgical health needs to address. Thanks to our on-site laboratory, these tests are typically processed within an hour. Our pre-operation examinations always include monitoring of the patient’s blood pressure, heart rate, heart rhythm, and blood oxygen levels by a specially designated veterinary technician.

Patient Monitoring

In monitoring pets during surgery, we follow the same standards of safety as we would for human patients. Throughout the procedure, we keep a constant watch over your pet’s vitals — including their pulse, respiration, and temperature — using a combination of state-of-the-art equipment and manual techniques.

After Surgery

Following surgery, one of our nursing staff team members will give you a follow-up call to discuss a status report. When you arrive to pick up your pet, the veterinarian or nurse will go over the procedure with you and provide easy-to-understand aftercare instructions. We will follow up again in a few days with another call to learn about your pet’s condition and answer any further questions you may have.

Anesthesia and Pain Management

We prioritize your pet’s comfort before, during, and after every operation for their immediate and ongoing well-being. Pain management, including anesthesia, is developed for your pet’s individual needs for their safety on the operating table and to speed up their post-operative recovery.

Our veterinary team uses a multi-modal approach to pain management. This entails administering small amounts of various drugs in a specific order to relieve pain during and after the operation. Using smaller doses of these medications helps minimize their side effects and accelerate recovery.

Post-Operative Care

After your pet’s operation, our staff may recommend therapy techniques in tandem with medication to further ease pain and promote faster recovery.

Please call us for more information on our procedures or our hospital’s surgical protocols. We are more than happy to provide you with additional details.

Lauren Dinsmore

Lauren Dinsmore, DVM

Dr. Lauren Dinsmore took over K-M Regional Veterinary Hospital in 2012 from Dr. Bruce Bordelon. She has enjoyed working alongside Dr. Bruce ever since. They place a special emphasis on compassionate patient care, high-quality medicine, and exemplary client education.

Dr. Dinsmore was born in Panama City, Florida. Her family moved to the suburban Detroit area of Michigan when she was in elementary school. An early love of animals guided her to volunteer at her cat’s veterinarian’s office in high school. Cleaning cages, walking dogs, and getting to watch surgery confirmed that this would become her life’s work.

Dr. Dinsmore earned an undergraduate degree in Biology at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY. Although busy with labs and an externship in a small animal veterinary office, Dr. Lauren also played varsity singles and doubles for the Vassar Women’s Tennis team, earning her the Senior Outstanding Athlete of the Year award. Following graduation, Dr. Dinsmore attended Michigan State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine in East Lansing, MI. While at MSU, she participated in three volunteer spay/neuter trips to Native American Reservations in Idaho, Arizona, and Utah and coordinated the student-run Pet Loss Support Hotline.

Dr. Dinsmore spent her first six years in practice working in general medicine and at a 24-hour emergency care hospital in Michigan prior to moving to Minnesota. Her professional interests include ultrasound, soft tissue surgery, dentistry, and emergency medicine.

Outside of the clinic, Dr. Dinsmore shares her household with her husband Jason, an attorney for the National Wildlife Federation and Executive Director of the Minnesota Conservation Federation. They have two young, active sons, Logan and Eivin. Of course, there are furry family members as well: two dogs, Dillon (wire-haired pointing griffon) and Teddy (golden retriever), and two rambunctious rescue cats, Gunflint and Puffin.

Molly Anderson-Krahn

Molly enjoys the diverse and exciting field of small animal veterinary medicine and counts client education and dentistry as her favorite aspects. At home, Molly enjoys the company of her husband, two sons, and a rescue dog and cat. In her free time, she is an avid ceramic artist and enjoys cake decorating and reading.

Trevor Otte

Trevor Otte, DVM

Dr. Otte was born and raised about an hour north of the clinic in Randolph, Minnesota. He attended the University of Minnesota for both his undergraduate degree and for veterinary school. Following graduation, Dr. Otte was a mixed-animal veterinarian in Iowa. He returned to Minnesota and transitioned to work exclusively with small animals in 2021. His professional interests include soft-tissue surgery and population medicine. Dr. Otte’s hobbies include cooking, camping, and traveling with his wife, Millie. At home, they have a dog named Pepper and a cat named LouAnn.
