Pet Microchipping
If your pet ever became lost, how would they find their way back to you? Microchipping your companion gives them their best chance at being reunited with you should the unthinkable happen.
At K-M Regional Veterinary Hospital, we strongly recommend microchipping for all pets, indoor and outdoor alike. Pets go missing every year, and unfortunately, many of them never find their way back home simply because they cannot be identified. Even if your companion already has a collar and tag, a microchip gives them a permanent means of identification so that veterinarians and shelters will always know to contact you.
Microchips are a safe and dependable form of identification solution that won’t break, cannot be removed, and will never need to be recharged in your pet’s lifetime. Microchipping your companion means they can always be identified as yours should you ever be separated.
Implanting a Microchip
Microchipping your pet involves implanting one underneath the skin. This minor procedure embeds a tiny chip (which is only the size of a grain of rice) between your pet’s shoulder blades with a quick incision no more painful than a standard vaccine. Your pet will not require anesthesia or a recovery period.
How Do Microchips Help Identify Pets?
Each tiny microchip is encoded with your contact information and identifying information about your pet. Most veterinary hospitals and animal shelters have special scanners that can read microchips and immediately check this identification. This means that if your pet ever goes missing, they can be identified and returned to you as soon as they’re brought to an animal care facility even if they’ve lost their collar or tags.
